RIMS Holds Its Inaugural Risk Forum in China

Over 200 Chinese government officials, senior risk managers, academics and representatives from state-owned enterprises and large private entities attended the first-ever RIMS Risk Forum China held in Beijing on Nov. 21 & 22. The 2-day event consisted of an invitation-only risk summit on Nov. 21 followed by a general forum open to the public on Nov. 22. Speakers from Microsoft, Insurance Society of China, the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), Peking University and more presented on topics ranging from ERM to cyber security to the One Belt One Road initiative. Thanks to our partners Willis Towers Watson, PwC, the People's Insurance Company of China (PICC) and Peking University for helping us put together an exciting and successful event!​

Congratulations to Roland Teo for Winning the Corporate Risk Manager of the Year​ Title at the Asia Insurance Industry Awards!

Roland Teo, Deputy Director of Risk Management at Eastern Health Alliance and the leader of the RIMS Regional Advisory Group for Southeast Asia, was awarded the title of Corporate Risk Manager of the Year at the 21st Asia Insurance Industry Awards held on November 1, 2017, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore.  See here for the full article in Asia Insurance Review and click here for a video of Roland’s acceptance speech.

Shortly after RIMS introduced its new individual membership categories​ in July 2017, Roland became the first person in Singapore to join RIMS as an individual professional member.  He has indeed been instrumental in helping RIMS build relationships with key government, educational and risk management entities in Singapore.

Peking University’s School of Economics Opens “The RIMS Corner” at Its Library!

RIMS, the risk management society™, has partnered with Peking University to give students access to the Society’s collection of thought-leading risk management knowledge and resources. The University’s Dean of School of Economics, Professor Sun Qixiang welcomed RIMS President Nowell Seaman and Board Director Robert Zhang to officially open “The RIMS Corner” publication center in the University’s School of Economics Library. RIMS Strengthens Its Engagement with International Students

At the 2017 RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition held in April, risk management students from China, India and Singapore gathered in Philadelphia to participate in educational sessions, study trips and various networking events.  A four-student team from Singapore’s prestigious Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was there to compete in the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge finals​, becoming the first team from outside the US and Canada to make it to the final round of the case competition.

Three students from China and one student from India were selected to attend the conference as Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program (ABSIP) scholars, marking the first time that the program had awarded grants to students outside of the US and Canada​.  As part of ongoing efforts to provide more opportunities for students around the world, RIMS has further expanded the ABSIP program to reserve a total of six spots for international students in 2018.
