Charles J. “Chuck” Magazine’s career in risk management began in 1971 with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.  His more than 40 year career included experiences in the fields of risk management, insurance, claims, as well as positions at a major insurance company, a state health agency, private healthcare systems, a nationwide restaurant franchise operation, and most recently, the City of Boynton Beach, Florida.  In those roles, Mr. Magazine developed and implemented claims programs in the areas of workers’ compensation, property, and casualty insurance.

An active member of RIMS, Mr. Magazine served on the Board of the Palm Beach County Chapter from 1996-2013 in numerous capacities including President from 2001-2002.  Additionally, he had the honor of Chairing the Florida RIMS Annual Conference in 2001, and representing the Palm Beach County Chapter on the Florida RIMS Conference Committee for several years. In addition to the positions he held at his local Chapter, he served on the Society’s Member Chapter Services Committee from 2007-2009.

Always eager to dedicate himself to the advancement of risk management, he was an active member of several industry affiliations that included: the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA); a Board position with the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Florida; Vice President, Board Member for the Florida Partnership for Safety and Health; Board Director for the Florida Partnership for Safety and Health; Vice President and Board Director for the Coastal Virginia Healthcare Association for Risk Management; membership to the National Association of Quality Assurance Professionals; and held several leadership positions with the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

In the early 2000s, Mr. Magazine served on a committee formed by then State Senator Ron Klein to address Florida-based property insurance concerns. He recruited other seasoned risk managers to the committee, which provided Florida legislators with a “boots-on-the-ground” perspective of risk management. He also partnered with other Florida RIMS chapters to create a program similar to RIMS on the Hill for the state of Florida, so that legislators could engage with risk managers and hear their concerns first-hand. For his efforts in this arena, he was awarded RIMS Richard W. Bland Award in 2008 for outstanding achievement in legislative and regulatory affairs.

Mr. Magazine was a proud supporter of the Spencer Educational Foundation and always gave back when he could to the next generation of risk management professionals. He facilitated, through the Foundation, a local summer internship program, and has worked to encourage other risk managers to do the same.  He also served as a Risk Manager in Residence for the Spencer Foundation at Middle Tennessee State University.

In addition to his professional passions, Mr. Magazine always participated in Heart Walks and other community charity events.
