February 13, 2024

NEW YORK (February 13, 2024) – At the RIMS New Zealand and Pacific Island Chapter Forum, RIMS CEO Gary A. LaBranche, FASAE, CAE announced that Eamonn Cunningham is the recipient of the Society’s most prestigious honor, RIMS Harry & Dorothy Goodell Award. Named after RIMS first Executive Director and his wife, the annual honor pays tribute to an individual who has furthered the goals of RIMS and the risk management discipline through outstanding service and achievement. The honor was confirmed by the Goodell Award Selection Committee chaired by RIMS 2023 President Jennifer Santiago, RIMS-CRMP, MBA, ARM.

Eamonn Cunningham joined the Westfield Group (later Scentre Group) in 1986 and after various positions within Finance was promoted to the position of Vice President, Global Risk Management in 2001. Following his appointment as Chief Risk Officer in 2005, he was responsible for the global direction of the risk management practice within the Westfield Group. After a 30-year career with Westfield/Scentre Group, Eamonn retired as Chief Risk Officer in March 2016.

Additionally, Eamonn lobbied Australian government on risk management related matters and worked with elected officials to establish the Australian ARPC (Australia’s version of the U.S. Terrorism Risk Insurance Act/TRIA). Eamonn was integral in the formation of RIMS Australasia Chapter in 2012 and currently serves as the chapter’s 2024 president. He is a past Chairman of the Risk Management Committee of the Property Council of Australia and continues to mentor up-and-coming risk management professionals.

“Throughout Eamonn’s remarkable risk management career he has unselfishly dedicated his time and expertise to not only advancing the profession but to creating opportunities for other risk leaders to succeed along with him,” said Gary LaBranche. “The Harry & Dorothy Goodell Award celebrates the best-of-the-best in risk management. RIMS is sincerely grateful to Eamonn for his extraordinary contributions and his unwavering commitment to sharing his experiences. It is an honor to present him with this prestigious award.”

“To this day, I continue to marvel at the extraordinary leadership my colleagues within the risk community exhibit as they pave the way for countless organizations to navigate the volatility and unpredictability our world continues to present us,” said Eamonn Cunningham. “It has been a privilege to work alongside so many exceptional professionals and to learn from their experiences. The camaraderie within the risk management profession is unlike any other. I continue to champion our industry, lend my support, and provide guidance. I am sincerely honored to be recognized by the RIMS community.”

Eamonn will be formerly presented with the RIMS Harry & Dorothy Goodell Award at RISKWORLD® in San Diego on May 6, 2024
