Risk Practitioners Take Time to Support Local Charities at RIMS ‘14

NEW YORK (April 21, 2014) On April 27th, approximately 100 risk professionals will gather for the 7th Annual RIMS Community Service Day, an initiative that provides RIMS ’14 attendees with the opportunity to give back to the local community. Sponsored by Zurich, this year, participants will work with Savio House, a Denver nonprofit that delivers critical support for in-need families.  The group will spend the day painting, landscaping and cleaning at Savio House (325 King Street) at 9:30 a.m.

Founded in the early 1960s as an orphanage, Savio House intervenes in the lives of families to strengthen them so that they may keep their children and remain an intact family.   With a wide range of services, most of which are delivered in the families’ homes, children and adolescents’ lives are provided with essential support in order to prevent the need for foster, group and correctional care.

A second Community Service project will be held on Tuesday, April 29th in the Exhibit Hall at the Colorado Convention Center. The second project – also sponsored by Zurich - will benefit the Resource Area for Teaching, a local nonprofit that provides teachers with supplies to make their lessons more interactive and fun.  Risk professionals will lend their support by assembling science kits for local schools.

Resource Area for Teaching is where teachers go to get inspired and find interactive, hands-on resources to help teach their students. The nonprofit organization supports thousands of Colorado teachers by providing them with well-equipped teacher workspace, professional development and recycled teaching materials that are 80—90% lower than retail prices.

“Providing today’s children with a stable upbringing, in a nurturing family setting and access to educational resources is crucial to their development and significantly impacts their potential for future success,” said RIMS Executive Director Mary Roth.  “RIMS is proud to support the Savio House and Resource Area For Teaching and contribute to their efforts to assist those in need.  I’d also like to thank Zurich for sponsoring RIMS Community Service Day events, allowing us to continue this important conference tradition.”

”Zurich is committed to helping build resilient and sustainable communities and here in North America this includes working to support  the health and welfare of children in need,” said Dan Riordan, Zurich CEO of Global Corporate in North America. “I am proud of the Zurich employees and all RIMS volunteers who will be joining me on Sunday to make a difference in the lives of Savio House families and working throughout the week to support area teachers.”

In 2007, RIMS was one of the first entities to host a large convention in post-Katrina New Orleans.  RIMS first Community Service Day was initiated during that conference to support local families and rebuild infrastructure devastated by the natural disaster.
