Back in the Saddle

The latest news about RIMS upcoming events and resources.

September 09, 2025

Let’s start this off with a huge congratulations to all the Chapter leaders and volunteers who helped make RIMS’ first-ever Texas Regional Conference such a huge success. Nearly 500 risk professionals from across the state showed up for this groundbreaking conference. Forty-seven exhibitors lined up to show off their services and resources, and the event featured more than 20 education sessions. Texas has always been a hotbed of risk management innovation, and we can’t wait to build upon this momentum next year.

But that was August!  It’s time for risk professionals to get back in the saddle…and where better to saddle-up than arguably the rodeo capital of the world: Calgary.

In one week, Calgary will play host to RIMS Canada Conference (September 14-17).  Before we even arrive, more than 1,000 risk professionals have registered to attend. Each year, RIMS Canada Conference delivers outstanding keynotes, education, an expansive exhibit hall, and invaluable networking opportunities. To show our appreciation for our host city’s hospitality this year, RIMS Canada Council is proud to announce that it will make donations to two local charities: Calgary Kids and Ronald McDonald House Canada. These two amazing groups do so much to better the lives of those in need and we are beyond proud to contribute to that cause. Dust off your boots and come join the fun! Registration is still open. I hope to see you there.

If Calgary is not in your travel plans, I encourage you to check out the RIMS Regional Events calendar. RIMS Chicagoland Risk Forum immediately follows RIMS Canada Conference, and RIMS Western Regional kicks off October in Bay Area. In addition to these larger RIMS events, your local chapters are bursting with education and networking all year long. My engagement with my local RIMS chapter had such an amazing impact on my career. I’m confident it will do the same for you.

Whether you call it ERM or not, the success of our risk programs hinges on our ability to see, understand, and manage enterprise-wide risks. While you won’t need a saddle for this one, RIMS ERM Conference (November 17-18 in Seattle) is right around the corner and it’s the premier event for savvy ERM veterans and aspiring ERM-ers alike. The conference’s education program is now live on the site. Check it out and register today.

There is so much more to share.  The newly launched RIMS-CRO Certificate Program in Advanced Enterprise Risk Management is about to kick off its second cohort. Limited spaced is available, but it’s not sold out yet. RIMS Public Policy Committee recently issued a new report that reviews cybersecurity safe harbor regulations and requirements. And, there has been a barrage of new RIMS Virtual Workshops and e-Books added to RIMS Risk Knowledge library. The opportunities are endless!!!

Lastly, no message from me would be complete without a RISKWORLD update. The RISKWORLD Conference Programming Committee – comprising volunteer risk leaders – has just closed the session submission window and will begin reviewing over 500 submissions. Exhibitions sales are now open too. Get ready for another dynamic program and an inspirational RISKWORLD Marketplace. RISKWORLD 2026 is scheduled for May 3-6 in Philadelphia. Members can register today. Registration for the greater risk community will open in December.

June, July, August – the midway points of the year – are great times to recharge, step back from our work, examine our programs, and do some self-assessment as well. There is no time like the present to get back in the saddle. Let’s continue to advance this profession together, elevate our programs, and make professional development our top priority.

The RIMS Community thrives because of you.  Thank you for your engagement and support.

Sincerely,

Kristen Peed
RIMS 2025 President
