RISKWORLD Community Service Project Delivers Essentials for San Diego's Most Vulnerable

Hygiene Kits to Be Assembled for Locals Benefitting from Sharia’s Closet’s Aid

April 23, 2024

(NEW YORK) April 23, 2024RIMS, the risk management society®, is asking the risk community to help give back to San Diego’s most vulnerable. The RISKWORLD Community Service Project, sponsored by ESIS (a Chubb Company), will help support Sharia’s Closet, a San Diego nonprofit dedicated to providing children, teens, and adults with clothing and other everyday essentials.

At RISKWORLD, risk professionals will assemble hygiene kits for Sharia’s Closet that will be made available at no cost to locals who rely on the charity’s services. Established in 2013, Sharia’s Closet has supported nearly 50,000 individuals, building their self-esteem and self-identity and empowering them to succeed in school, on job interviews, and overcome adversity. HandsOn San Diego, a local nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen the community through volunteer action, coordinated this project for RISKWORLD.

**A hygiene kit assembly station will be on the second floor of the San Diego Convention Center (SDCC) during RISKWORLD on May 6 and 7. All registered RISKWORLD attendees are invited to participate**

"Sharia’s Closet's Bags of Hope is a comprehensive approach to supporting individuals and families in need,” said Shamine Linton, Founder/CEO of Sharia’s Closet. “By providing essential items such as personal hygiene products, RISKWORLD attendees will address not only our families’ immediate needs but also promote dignity and respect. It's initiatives like these that have a profound impact on the lives of those they serve, fostering empowerment and hope within communities."

“Volunteering is the key to making the world a better place. When individuals are actively engaged, communities are stronger,” said Lisa Lindgren, Executive Director of HandsOn San Diego. “HandsOn San Diego is proud to connect amazing organizations like RIMS and Sharia’s Closet. We have seen the power of volunteerism first-hand and know that this RISKWORLD project will have a big impact on our community.”

“We are proud to sponsor HandsOn San Diego at the 2024 RISKWORLD Event as a way to reinforce our dedication to community involvement," said Jim Shevlin, President, ESIS, A Chubb Company. “Our commitment extends beyond business to making a tangible impact in the communities where RISKWORLD events are held and where our clients reside. This year, we're hosting a Community Service Project table and encouraging attendees to stop by and join us in creating hygiene kits for those experiencing financial hardship or crisis. We will also be making a donation that will help support more than 100 local organizations across San Diego County with group volunteer events and projects.”

“Giving back to the RISKWORLD host city is yet another powerful way for risk professionals to make a difference in this world,” said RIMS CEO Gary LaBranche, FASAE, CAE. “Sharia’s Closet and HandsOn San Diego do important work to keep San Diego’s community vibrant and resilient. RIMS is proud to be able to advance their missions and sincerely thanks ESIS for supporting this RISKWORLD experience again this year.”

Demonstrating its gratitude for the city that hosts RISKWORLD, RIMS, the risk management society®, identifies a local charity and develops fun and engaging activities for RISKWORLD attendees to give back. As one of the first entities to host a large convention in post-Katrina New Orleans, RIMS first Community Service Project was in 2007 to support local families in the area to rebuild infrastructure devastated by the natural disaster.
