Canadian Risk Management (CRM)

The CRM designation is a widely recognized qualification that provides risk managers with a foundation of knowledge and skills needed to identify, assess, monitor, and limit risks. Earn the CRM to demonstrate a level of professional commitment, knowledge, and skills that employers from the public and private sector recognize.

What are the eligibility requirements for the CRM?

Any Canadian risk professional can pursue their CRM designation. To earn the CRM designation, candidates must complete three foundational courses and pass a standardized exam for each course.

Who offers CRM exam prep courses?

CRM exam prep courses are offered at colleges and universities in these four Canadian provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec.

What is the format of each exam?

The CRM54, CRM55, and CRM56 exams are administered in a virtual format on The Institutes' virtual learning management system. Each exam is 70 multiple-choice questions; candidates have one hour and 40 minutes to complete each exam.

How do I register for the exam? Can I get exam accommodations?

To sign up for an exam, visit the exam registration page and submit payment for the exam you plan to take. Each exam is $205 USD for RIMS Members; $225 USD for Non-Members.

If you need accommodations, you may request additional exam time free of charge.

What is a digital badge? How do I get one?

A digital badge is a way for you to share your achievement with peers and employers. It allows employers to verify the authenticity of your CRM designation.

After your CRM designation is processed, digital badge provider Credly will send you an email about claiming your badge.
