Risk Execs Gather at Philadelphia Charity to Assemble Care Packages for Low-Income Families

NEW YORK (April 10, 2012) — On Sunday, April 15th, 100 risk professionals are expected to take part in RIMS 2012 (The Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.) Community Service Day to assemble care-packages for local charity Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit that provides essentials to underprivileged children in the Philadelphia area.  The event, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., is sponsored by Zurich and will officially kick-off RIMS 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition.

For more than 11 years, Cradles to Crayons has made it their mission to provide the city’s disadvantaged children with some of the most important basics of life.   The nonprofit collects and distributes the essentials that include everything from school supplies and toys to clothing and shoes. These KidPacks” - each containing a week’s worth of everyday essentials - are distributed by more than 350 social service agencies to low-income and homeless children living in the Philadelphia region.

RIMS Community Service Day has become a fun and rewarding tradition at the Annual Conference and a great reminder that while we strive to achieve professional excellence and can become consumed with all of the daily challenges that risk practitioners now face, there are others out there who are less fortunate than us and who desperately need our help,” said Scott B. Clark, RIMS immediate past president. “RIMS is proud to be able to help Cradles to Crayons and the families of Philadelphia and would like to extend our gratitude to Zurich for their support that has helped to make this day possible.”

“Every child deserves to have the essentials, and that’s why Zurich and its employees are looking forward to joining RIMS and helping Cradles to Crayons collect books, clothing, and toys for children in need,”  said Mike Kerner, CEO Global Corporate North America for Zurich Insurance. “Truly caring about people through active engagement and supporting the development of strong communities is important to our heritage, our 100 year history of insuring America, and who we are as a company today.”

In addition to the efforts at RIMS 2012 Community Service Day, RIMS and Zurich have collected donation items in advance. Collection receptacles will also be placed throughout the convention center during the conference.  For more information about RIMS 2012 Community Service Day and RIMS 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition, visit www.RIMS.org/RIMS12.
