Protect Your tax-Exempt Status:

(This information was extracted from  The new Form 990 series returns are effective for 2009 tax years (returns filed beginning in 2010).  To allow organizations time to adjust to the new forms, the IRS has phased in the new returns during a three-year transition period with 2010 serving as the last transition year.  An organization’s annual filing requirement depends on its financial activity.  The charts below indicate the general exempt organization filing requirements during the transition period.

Blast Emails
When your Chapter is sending a blast email to your members via the RIMS Email Manager system, please consider NOT including attachments, as the size of those tends to compromise the efficient distribution of these communications.  If you have an attachment, it would work better if you post the attachment on your chapter website and provide the URL to that information in the body of the blast email.  This will ensure that your email goes through effectively AND drives traffic to your website – a win-win! If you have questions about this, please contact

This information bulletin is distributed bi-weekly in an effort to reduce the amount of separate emails our Chapter officers receive from RIMS.  It highlights Chapter/member-related information including new benefits to Chapters, changes at RIMS and upcoming events.  Please review this email when you receive it to remain on the cutting-edge of what's relevant for chapters from RIMS.  Visit the archived versions of the Chapter Officer Bulletin archive at:  We would also be glad to include relevant information from your Chapter (announcements, meetings, brief success stories).
