RIMS signs letter to Congress opposing an insurance tax increase in President’s Budget.
On February 9, RIMS, as a member of the Coalition for Competitive Insurance Rates signed a letter which was sent to key members of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees. The letter opposes a provision in the President’s FY 17’ Budget that would deny a routine business tax deduction for certain reinsurance premiums paid to foreign-based affiliates by domestic insurers. The provision may ultimately result in domestic insurers utilizing less foreign affiliate reinsurance, which will result in less tax revenue and more expensive, less effective insurance.
