We suggest that you register on-line for quick registration. If you are mailing us a check or doing a bank transfer, you need to fax us a copy of the registration form in order to hold your seat in the program. Registration is not guaranteed until we receive payment.  If you wish to participate in a RIMS course, the registration fee needs to be received by RIMS before the first day of the course.
 
If you register by mailing a check or doing a bank transfer, you will be accepted as long as the program is not sold out when we receive your payment.
 
International Attendee Information/Travel Visas- APPLY EARLY! Visa applicants are advised to apply to the consultate as soon as they decide to attend a program. We suggest at least four months in advance to allow enough time for the visa approval process to take place.
 
Since registrations will be limited, we suggest registering as soon as possible.

Cancellations and Refunds

RIMS reserves the right to cancel a course if conditions warrant. In the event of such a cancellation, registration fees will be refunded. RIMS is not responsible for any travel or lodging expenses that an attendee may incur due to such a cancellation. Before purchasing your airline ticket, please confirm with RIMS (pd@RIMS.org) that there are enough registrations to conduct the program.
 
All requests for refunds or changes must be submitted in writing. Registrants who cancel 15 business days or less prior to the start of the workshop can send a replacement from their company or receive credit to attend another workshop with the same duration and cost within a year of the cancelled registration. Please note if the member rate was paid for the original registration and you elect to send a replacement or transfer the credit to another employee of your organization who is not a member, an additional fee will be charged to offset the difference between the member and nonmember rate. No refunds will be issued for cancellations less than 15 days from the start of the workshop.
 
Registrants who cancel 21 business days or less prior to the start of the workshop will be subject to a $150 service charge. Refunds for credit cards will be processed within 30 days. All other forms of payment will be issued 60 days following the course. Transfer to another course can be made within the calendar year. Individuals may be substituted prior to the course.
 
In the event that a presenter is unable to perform due to an unforeseen circumstance, RIMS shall find a substitute with equal expertise.
 
 

This workshop helps prepare risk professionals to obtain the RIMS Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) certification*. 

The course will review the background and benefits of the certification as well as the core competencies of a risk professional. Case studies, hands on exercises and an action planner are used throughout the workshop to prepare you to take the certification examination. 

The course also covers strategies for studying, test taking, and utilizing testing centers. 

This workshop is based on the RIMS-CRMP Certification Handbook (available at www.rims.org/certification/Documents/RIMS-CRMP_Handbook_2016.pdf) and Study Guide (available at www.rims.org/certification/Documents/RIMS-CRMP-Study-Guide.pdf). 

 

*The course is not intended to replace other resources needed to prepare for the examination nor guarantee you will pass the examination.

Dr. Joseph A. Milan
Joseph is a Principal of JA Milan and Associates, LLC, which was established as a private company in 2009. Joseph is
an internationally recognized risk management professional with extensive experience in the design and implementation
of enterprise risk management (ERM) programs. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated the ability to use innovative
strategies to create long-term enterprise value.

As Principal of JA Milan and Associates, Joseph helps ERM clients with the design, implementation, and continuous
improvement of ERM programs.

Joseph has helped clients from Central and South America to Canada and the Middle East initiate and improve their ERM
initiatives. He has experience with multiple industry sectors, including energy, mining, financial institutions, commercial real
estate, transportation, service, educational institutions, non-profits, and many others.

In order to build the foundation for ERM implementations, Joseph brings strategic planning and communication skills as well
as a deep understanding of major ERM frameworks. In support of ERM program execution, Joseph has extensive experience
with business risk assessments and advanced analytics that assist organizations prioritize key risk areas and select risk
treatments. He also helps organizations ensure continuous improvement through the development of relevant reports for
reporting on known and emerging risks.

Prior to forming JA Milan and Associates, Joseph served from 2006 to 2008 as Chief Risk Officer of UDR, Inc. one of the largest
multifamily real estate investment trusts in the United States. At UDR, he developed and implemented an ERM program
through comprehensive business risk assessments, development of an innovative approach to risk evaluation, and continuous
improvement based on communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Prior to UDR, Joseph served as Vice President and Risk Manager of AIMCO, and Senior Vice President of AIMCO Assurance,
a captive insurance company domiciled in Bermuda. With total cost of risk of $105 M, Joseph applied innovative approaches
to reducing costs, developing ways to turn risk into a profit center, and applied predictive analytics to support risk informed
decisions within the organization.

Joseph has over 24 years experience as a professional educator and trainer and has been a keynote presenter and facilitator at
conferences and seminars on ERM in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Central and South America. Joseph has
published articles on ERM for CFO.com and invited papers on ERM. He was a member of the Risk and Insurance Management
Society ERM Committee from 2007 to 2010. He holds a Doctoral Degree in International Relations from the University of
Miami, Magna Cum Laude; a Masters Degree in Communication from the University of New Mexico, Summa Cum Laude;
Bachelor Degrees in Communication and Spanish from the University of Northern Colorado, Magna Cum Laude; and holds an
Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.
