RIMS Regional Conference Schedule

RIMS Western Regional Conference To Convene in San Francisco
RIMS 52nd Annual Western Regional Conference kicks off on September 2-5 in San Francisco. Hosted by RIMS Golden Gate Chapter this year, the popular event is slated to attract more than 100 talented risk management professionals from the western states and beyond.

The conference features panel sessions comprised of risk managers and industry experts to provide a multi-faceted perspective on the issues. Topics include "The Changing Landscape of D&O Liability Insurance: Are you Prepared?"; "Catastrophic Risk Management-Going Beyond Insurance"; "The Ten Worst Mistakes on Property and Business Interruption Claims"; and "Fundamentals of a Successful TPA Claims Service Partnership".

Keynote speaker at the general session is Evan Greenberg, chairman and CEO of ACE, on the topic of "Current Affairs in Risk Management". In keeping with the conference theme, humor therapist Elaine Lundberg will kick off the event with "Laughter--The Glue That Holds the Bridge Together" and Dan McGarvey, managing director of Marsh, will explore challenges in risk management in "Bridging the Generation Gap". Another session of note is "Extra! Extra! What's New in the World of Risk Management," presented by Mary Roth, ARM, RIMS executive director; and Joseph Restoule, CIP, CRM, RIMS vice president and leader of risk management at NOVA Chemicals Corp. Other speakers include Dan Glaser, chairman and CEO of Marsh, speaking on "Outlook for the Insurance and Brokerage Industries"; and Brian Murray, managing director of AIG and an expert on doing business in China, on "China's Rising Impact on the Global Economy".

For a special treat, the conference will host a gala at McCormick & Kuleto's Seafood Restaurant in historic Ghirardelli Square with spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay, fine California wines and a mouth-watering selection of culturally-diverse cuisine to the beat of the Magnolia Jazz Band--all topped off with a Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory "Build Your Own Sundae".

The theme of this year's conference is "Bridging Risk to Opportunity", and the conference logo features the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. "This year, we chose a theme that highlights the importance of enterprise risk management. We are committed to providing risk professionals with a program that will help them recognize the value of the risk-reward balance, which can be attained by accepting risk or proactively controlling it," says Karen Beier, ARM, RIMS Western Regional Conference chair, member of RIMS board of directors and vice president of risk management at Shaklee Corp.

Online registration ends August 15, 2008. Complete details on RIMS Western Regional Conference are available at

RIMS Florida Educational Conference to Attract More Than 600 Risk Professionals
The 33rd Annual RIMS Florida Educational Conference kicks off on July 29 in Naples, Florida, with more than 600 risk professionals from North America and Europe are slated to attend. The conference is hosted by all seven Florida RIMS chapters.

Keynote speaker at the RIMS Florida Educational Conference is Kevin M. Quinley, vice president of the Council on Litigation Management, on the topic of "Trials and Tribulations: The Risk Managers Role During Litigation". Other topics covered at the conference include "Climate Change and 'Going Green'--Risks and Solutions", "How the Sub Prime Crisis Affects You, the Economy and Insurance Market", "MySpace and Your Risk" and "Undocumented Workers: New Immigrations Rules and Workers' Compensation".

Another noteworthy session is the "Stump the Masters" panel, comprised of "yet to be stumped" risk management experts who will take on any risk-related questions from the crowd. Speakers include Scott B. Clark, AAI, member of RIMS board of directors and risk and benefits officer at Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Richard L. Broderick, Jr., ARM, director of risk management at Harris Corp.; Karen Temme, risk manager for the Town of Palm Beach; Michael A. Benishek, RIMS Tampa Bay Chapter president and director of risk management and insurance at Pacific Tomato Growers, Ltd; and moderated by Judge Amy Smith.

The fourth annual RIMS Florida Networking Raffle and Reception provides attendees a new twist on the traditional trade show. Conference sponsors and venders are encouraged to devise unique ways of concealing gifts within objects at face value wouldn't draw much attention--like a book on travel, which when opened provides a weekend stay at a resort. The venue was started to encourage interaction between risk managers and conference sponsors.

And, the conference wouldn't be complete without its annual RIMS Florida Golf Tournament, sponsored by Zurich North America, at the Tiburón Golf Course in the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Florida colleges and universities to support the next generation of risk management professionals.

The deadline to register is July 21. Onsite registration will be available on July 29-31. Complete details on RIMS Florida Educational Conference are available at
