RIMS Chicago Chapter Pledges $100,000 to Spencer Educational Foundation 12/8/2008

NEW YORK (December 8, 2008) — Spencer Educational Foundation has received a $100,000 commitment from the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Chicago Chapter.

“RIMS Chicago Chapter Scholarship would not be possible without the support of our dedicated chapter members and sponsors,” says Alan Kubitz, RIMS Chicago Chapter president and director of risk management at The HAVI Group LP. “The chapter is a longstanding supporter of local university insurance programs, and we are delighted to be able to continue supporting the next generation of risk management and insurance professionals.”

RIMS Chicago Chapter Scholarship will be awarded annually to students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in risk management or insurance at colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin. The first recipient will be announced in March of 2009.

“RIMS Chicago Chapter has always supported the goals of Spencer Educational Foundation, but this gift is its most generous to date,” says Donna L. Galer, chairwoman of Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. “The Foundation is proud to receive the support of one of the largest RIMS chapters. The donation is evidence of the chapter’s profound dedication to the future of the risk management and insurance profession.”

Since 1980, Spencer Educational Foundation has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships and $2.1 million in grants to students pursuing degrees and universities offering programs in risk management and insurance. In 2008, the Foundation received a $525,000 gift from FM Global, a $100,000 donation from RIMS Atlanta Chapter in memory of Dr. Edgar J. (E.J.) Leverett, and a $100,000 donation from Zurich Financial Services. In 2008, the Spencer Educational Foundation awarded more than $437,500 in scholarships and more than $150,000 in grants.
