"Hot Topic Sessions" at RIMS '15 Announced 3/3/2015

 

World’s Premier Risk Management Conference Addresses Practitioners’ Top Issues

 

NEW YORK (March 3, 2015) — RIMS has announced nine “Hot Topic Sessions” scheduled for RIMS 2015 Annual Conference & Exhibition on April 26th – 29th in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.  The “Hot Topic Sessions” are selected by RIMS Annual Conference Programming Committee and include educational presentations that explore new or exciting opportunities for risk professionals to deliver value.

 This year’s “Hot Topic Sessions” are: 

 THE DRONES ARE COMING: WILL YOU BE READY?

Monday, April 27th   2 - 3 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been directed to commercialize airspace for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) operations by 2015. In other words, "The Drones are Coming!" Everything from crop dusting, electric line inspections and oil seismic surveying, cargo deliveries and more will likely be implicated in relation to drone use. This session will discuss liability exposures, applicable legal frameworks, legal cases, as well as existing and expected laws pertaining to drone use. GETTING PAST THE HEADLINES: HOW TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS IN TURBULENT GEOPOLITICAL TIMES

As geopolitical uncertainties force risk professionals to take an apprehensive approach to new opportunities, how can risk managers systematically and confidently help their firms create a structure to address these risks? This panel will take you through one risk manager’s journey–the thought process, methodology, tools and the roles of different people in the organization. Discussions about mitigation tools, including but not limited to political risk insurance, key perils covered under these policies–political violence, expropriation, currency inconvertibility and non–honoring of sovereign debt and the history of claims right up to recent times will also be covered. Unmanned/remote surveillance technology is becoming an important tool for risk managers and their claims teams to have in their toolbox. This session will focus on this emerging technology, how it works, some of its many applications, as well as a variety of claims objectives all aimed at improving claims outcomes. Risk and claims management professionals will learn how to better assess the benefits of this technology for their own unique claims needs and investigative philosophies. MODERNIZING THE REGULATION OF INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE PROGRAMS

While this revolution is exciting, it comes with challenges such as unregulated manufacturing and the potential for defective products, intellectual property infringement, contractual risk transfer controls and security breaches.
