How do I update my chapter preference/designation?
You can update your chapter preference by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and click on My Profile under the My RIMS section.
c.) Click on the 'Edit Contact Information' link located under your e-mail address just to the right of your photo/photo place holder.
d.) The contact information page is displayed; scroll down to the chapter preferences section - update and save to complete.
If I am a member of my local chapter, doesn't that mean I am also a member of RIMS?
Although some RIMS Chapters accept chapter-only membership, you must join RIMS Society to enjoy the benefits of RIMS Society membership.
Becoming a member at the Chapter level does NOT mean you are a member of the Society.
If I am a member of RIMS and the chapter, why am I being charged a fee to attend the local chapter meetings?
In addition to collecting annual dues, Chapters may charge a registration fee to recover costs of breakfast or lunch meetings, golf outings or other events. Many chapters offer chapter members a discounted fee for these events.
How can I volunteer for an officer, director or committee position for my local chapter?
Please contact the president of your chapter to indicate your interest in volunteer positions. Contact information for all chapter officers is located at http://www.RIMS.org/ChapterDirectory.
Where can I find information on my upcoming local chapter meetings?
You may locate information on your chapter by logging onto your chapter's website. Links for all chapter websites can be found here:

Conference
How can I acess the session materials from the conference?
Session materials from the conference can be accessed by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org/2010handouts
b.) Anyone who registered for the 2010 conference will gain access to the session materials for free. All non-registrants will be charged a fee.
Can I get a discount on a course or conference if my company is a member but I'm not?
If your company is a member of RIMS but you are not, you are not eligible to receive member benefits or discounts on RIMS products and services. Please log on to www.RIMS.org/jointoday to complete a membership application.
Deputy
How do I add an additional Deputy to my Corporate membership?
You may add an additional Deputy by completing and submitting the Deputy Update Application. Alternatively, if you are a Deputy member, you can simply:
a.) Log onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and select Manage Corporate membership under the 'About Membership' section.
c.) Select the radio button next to "Add Deputy", click next and follow the on-screen instructions.
How do I remove someone from the Corporate membership?
You can remove a Deputy from the Corporate membership by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and select Manage Corporate membership under the 'About Membership' section.
c.) Select the radio dial next to remove/replace Deputy, click next and follow the on-screen instructions.
How can I swap Deputy members so that someone can take advantage of member discounts?
You may switch Deputy members only if the prospective new Deputy member qualifies for membership (i.e., he/she is a full-time employee of the organization with risk management responsibilities). He or she may complete and submit a Deputy Update Application or you may:
a.) Log onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and select "Manage Corporate membership" under the "About Membership" section.
c.) Select the radio dial next to remove/replace Deputy, click next and follow the on screen instructions to remove the Deputy. Clicking 'continue' will return you to the Manage Corporate Membership main screen.
GRMI
Does joining GRMI make me a member of RIMS?
The Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI) and Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) are two separate entities. Membership in one does not entitle nor guarantee membership in the other.

I have a charge on my Corporate card that just says 'RIMS'. How can I find out what it's for?
Any charges to your credit card or Corporate credit card can be found in your order history:
a.) Log onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail addres and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Resources tab and select RIMStore under 'Tools'
c.) Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Order History"
d.) Select the date that corresponds to the amount of the invoice to display the order Acknowledgement.

What are my RIMS member and/or Corporate ID?

How can I find out who from my company is a member of RIMS?

I am a student but also work full-time, can I apply as a student member?
Unfortunately, you do not qualify for the Student Member category because you are currently employed in the industry. The RIMS Bylaws define that Student membership may be granted to a full-time student, as defined by that college or university. The student's major must be in risk management, insurance or business, finance or management or insurance provided such individual is not otherwise eligible for membership in another class. This means that students who work full-time (even if they are also taking a full-time course load) are not eligible for this membership category.

How can I transfer an Associate Membership from someone who is no longer with the company?
Associate of the Society membership is individual and is owned by the named person, regardless of who paid for the membership. It can only be transferred if that Associate requests the transfer of membership. The request must be sent via written or e-mail correspondence and must clearly state to whom the membership should be transferred.
How can I transfer my Deputy membership to someone else?
Corporate Membership can only be transferred to another individual of the same company who also qualifies for Corporate membership. You may submit a Deputy update application which can be found here: Deputy Update Application. Alternatively, you may utilize the 'Manage Corporate Membership' tool by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and select 'Manage Corporate membership' under 'About Membership' section.
c.) Select the radio dial next to remove/replace Deputy, click next and follow the on screen instructions to remove the Deputy. Clicking 'continue' will return you to the Manage Corporate Membership main screen.
d.) Select the radio dial next to add Deputy, click next and follow the on screen instructions to add the new Deputy.
Can I add members of my company onto my Associate membership?
Associate membership is individual; RIMS does not have a Corporate membership category for service provider organizations/companies. You may not add others onto this membership type. If someone in your company qualifies for Associate membership and wishes to become a member of RIMS, he or she may submit an Associate membership application which can be found here. An individual may also complete an online Associate of the Society Membership Application by logging onto www.RIMS.org/jointoday.
I have a Corporate Membership. Can I add anyone from my company onto that membership as an additional Deputy?
As long as the individual qualifies for Deputy membership (a full-time employee of the organization with risk management responsibilities), you may add them onto the membership as an additional Deputy at the Additional Deputy membership fee plus local Chapter dues.
Why does my company have two RIMS memberships?
A company may have two or more Corporate memberships for various reasons. Two of the most common are:
a.) The company has two or more offices located in different states, countries or hemispheres.
b.) For budgetary reasons, the company may choose to pay for the memberships based on who is in which departments.
We have two Corporate memberships, how do I move Deputy members from one of our memberships to the other?
In order to move deputies from one Corporate membership to another, you must submit a Deputy Update application which can be found by clicking here.
Opting Out
How do I opt out of receiving emails?
You may choose to opt in or out of various communications by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and click on My Preferences under the My RIMS section. Selecting 'Email' will direct you to a list of all the e-mail communication that you can opt in or out of.
If you choose to opt out of communications, you may miss valuable information about your RIMS memberships so make sure to check out the RIMS website frequently!
Profile
How do I update my profile?
You can update your profile by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and click on My Profile under the My RIMS section.
c.) Click on the 'Edit Contact Information' link located under your e-mail address just to the right of your photo/photo place holder.
d.) The contact information page is displayed; make the necessary changes and click the orange save button located at the top right of the page.
How do I update my demographics?
You can update your demographics by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and click on My Preferences under the My RIMS section.
c.) Selecting 'Update Your Demographics' will direct you to your demographics page. Make the necessary updates and click Finish.
How do I update my bio and photo?
You can upate your photo and bio by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and click on My Profile under the My RIMS section.
c.) Click on the 'Edit Picture' link just below the picture place holder.
d.) Click on the "Browse" button to upload the desired photo.
e.) Click on the 'Add your Info' link under the Bio section to add your information.
Renewal
Why do I have to complete a new application if I was a member of RIMS; can't I just renew my membership?
Once a membership has lapsed for more than 90 days, we require re-submission of a completed application. This request for a new application is to ensure we have the most up-to-date information listed on your account.
You may complete a new membership application by:
a.) Logging onto www.RIMS.org using your e-mail address and password.
b.) Place your mouse/pointer over the Membership tab and click on Join RIMS under the My RIMS section.
c.) Follow the on screen directions to complete the renewal process.

Why is RIMS requesting a copy of my job functions?
Typically, RIMS will request a copy of your job description to assess which membership category is the right one for you!
What percentage of my dues goes towards lobbying?
The lobbying percentage for 2010 is 10.5% and for 2011 memberships is 17.8%. For US members, this is the percentage of your dues that is not tax deductible. This information can also be found under the 'Membership Dues' section on the RIMS membership applications and on your renewal notice.
