Mary Roth Welcome Letter, Fall 2011

Welcome to RIMS!

This newsletter will introduce you to the breadth of services, products and resources that RIMS has to offer. Because one size does NOT fit all, we want to share the value RIMS provides whether you are at the beginning or mid-point in your career, you are located in a metro area or a more rural setting and whether you work for a corporation, a government agency, a non-profit organization or are a student.

Traditionally, much of RIMS member networking takes place through our chapters. There are 80 RIMS chapters – 68 in the U.S., 10 in Canada and one each in Mexico and Japan. Have you had a chance to reach out to your new chapter?  Find out who the officers are, when the next activities are scheduled and how you can get involved by visiting www.RIMS.org/ChapterDirectory. And if you have questions about chapter services, feel free to email our team at chapterservices@RIMS.org.

There are many other opportunities for networking – through professional development workshops, e-groups, RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition (April 15-19, 2012 in historic Philadelphia), our upcoming ERM Conference (see details in this newsletter), regional conferences and more. And we don’t just network within the risk management community. Our External Affairs Department oversees the Society’s interaction with legislators and regulators, to ensure that the voice of risk management is heard at the federal, state and provincial levels.

I encourage you to invest time getting familiar with www.RIMS.org, the portal to all things risk management. As budgets have tightened and being on the informational cutting-edge has become more critical, RIMS has made our website even easier for you to locate the resources and information you need! In addition, the RIMS Community (www.RIMS.org/Community) offers you the chance to network through existing e-groups or to set up groups of your own to address your specific needs.

As a new member, please feel free to contact the membership department at membership@RIMS.org if you have questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can make YOUR Society more valuable to you!
