Description of the Award
The Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award recognizes individual achievement at the chapter level. The award will be presented to one deputy member who exhibits qualities that further risk management at the chapter level. Activity at the chapter, regional, and/or RIMS (Society) level that benefit the chapter level will be considered. Chapter involvement can also be with more than one chapter. Through this individual's actions, they keep the chapter and the discipline of risk management vibrant and resilient. This award does not cover a specific time period and you may use examples from the candidate's entire RIMS career. This chapter's risk management role model is best described as being representative of "The Heart of RIMS."
Background
Ron Judd, during his 22-year tenure as RIMS Executive Director, proved himself to be a man of both vision and leadership. Although Mr. Judd facilitated the spread of risk management overseas by assisting risk managers abroad to establish similar organizations, he understood that the chapters, which are run by volunteers, are the lifeblood of RIMS.

In Recognition
In recognition of being chosen, the Ron Judd Heart of RIMS trophy will be presented at RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition to the individual receiving the award.
Eligibility
In order to nominate an individual deputy member for the Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award, an individual must be a member in good standing of RIMS. He/she must complete the entire application and provide supporting documentation to substantiate the submission, prior to the deadline.
No member of the RIMS Member & Chapter Services Committee is eligible to receive (or be nominated or otherwise considered for) the Ron Judd Heart of RIMS award during his or her term on the Committee or until the second award year after the end date of service on the Membership & Chapter Services Committee. They are also precluded from providing letters of endorsement. For example, if a member’s term expires on 12/31/2008, he/she is eligible for the 2010 award being bestowed in 2011.
Judging
Entries will be scored by the Member and Chapter Services Committee. The committee will review the submissions in February, 2009. Members of the Member and Chapter Services committee who are members of the same chapter as the nominee or are long-standing personal friends/professional colleagues may be requested to exclude themselves from voting on the award.
Entries submitted may be displayed, shown, duplicated, published or disposed of after the award winner is selected and announced at the RIMS Annual Conference.
Notification
A representative of the Member and Chapter Services Committee will notify the submitter shortly after the February meeting. The submitter may choose to notify the recipient or may request that the Member and Chapter Services Chair notify him/her prior to the RIMS Annual Conference.
Entry Tips
It is likely that the members of the Member and Chapter Services Committee will not know your candidate personally and will not be familiar with his/her achievements relative to activities at the chapter level. It is important to be specific in your descriptions and use more than one example throughout the application.
Two electronic letters of recommendation for the candidate are required with each nomination. These recommendations must be from two different sources, excluding the individual doing the nominating, such as co-workers, other chapter board members, members of the risk management community, educators, students, or a member of the RIMS Board of Directors. Members of the Member and Chapter Services Committee may not provide letters of recommendation.
If you previously submitted a nomination for the Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award that was not selected, you may re-nominate that individual. While copies of submissions for the 2008 award may be sent to the original submitter for reference (contact chapterservices@RIMS.org to request a copy), it is recommended that a new submission and updated letters of recommendation be forwarded for consideration for the 2009 Award.
Deadline
Deadline for entries: January 9, 2009 (5 pm ET)
All entries must be submitted online and all letters of reference must be submitted electronically by copying and pasting into the designated areas. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
