RIMS
POSITION STATEMENT ON WEAPONS IN THE WORKPLACE
Employers have a legal obligation to maintain a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. To protect workplace safety, employers must establish rules and policies applicable to employees and others who enter onto their work premises.
RIMS believes that it is in the public interest for employers to be able to establish policies and rules to protect employees and guests on their premises and reduce the potential for workplace violence. To this end, RIMS believes that employers should not be denied the right to determine who may be allowed on their premises and what reasonable conditions may be imposed on those persons, including a prohibition from transporting and storing firearms in locked vehicles.
