Members Address Industry Agenda at RIMS on the Hill Legislative Conference

In June, more than 45 risk management professionals attended the 10th Annual RIMS on the Hill Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. The two-day event provides a forum for RIMS members to represent the Society on Capitol Hill to ensure that the voice of risk management is heard and incorporated into legislation directly affecting risk management.

The program began with educational panels formed by staff from U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate committees, as well as industry lobbyists who discussed topics that RIMS identified as legislative priorities-such as the Optional Federal Charter, Surplus Lines and the Risk Retention Act expansion. Eleanor Clift, contributing editor for Newsweek, regular panelist on The McLaughlin Group and political analyst for the Fox News Network, delivered the keynote luncheon speech on the upcoming 2008 presidential election. On the second day, attendees took to the Hill to meet with congressional leaders in their region. Representing 15 states, they expressed RIMS position on relevant legislation and explained how each of the proposed bills affects the business environment in which they operate.
