The Britannia Community Services Centre is located on the East side of Vancouver and provides services to the Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona communities, where over 40 percent of families live in poverty. The centre provides a wide range of education, childcare, recreation, social and cultural programs to the community, and an integral part of those services is the Britannia Micro Footie league. Over the 17 years since its inception, the soccer program has expanded immensely and in the spring of 2010, over 790 youth took part in the program, the mission of which is to provide a safe and fun environment that helps to develop children’s knowledge, skills and attitudes toward positive involvement in sports.
“Since its inception five years ago, one of the pillars of RIMS Community Service Day has been, and continues to be, meeting the genuine needs of the communities that host our conference each year,” says Scott B. Clark, AAI, RIMS president. “RIMS is pleased to have the opportunity to assist the Britannia Community Service Centre as it mirrors that goal by providing critical services to an area where much of the population lives in poverty. RIMS aims to aid the centre in fostering impactful life skills among the community’s youth that will lead to personal, as well as social, change.”
“Our business is about people helping people. At Aon, we strive to foster the pursuit of not only organizational, but personal excellence and growth,” said Jennifer Fahey, executive vice president and head of sales and marketing for Aon Risk Solutions U.S. “We are honored to support RIMS Community Service Day for the fifth straight year, and commend RIMS, our colleagues and industry peers for this collective commitment to making a difference in our local communities.” Refurbishing the soccer field is a good connection for Aon, the global partner and shirt sponsor of Manchester United.
