NOVEMBER 2013: RIMS Professional Development Offerings 11/4/2013

 

As part of its ongoing Professional Development initiative, RIMS, the Risk Management Society™, will present the following educational offerings in the month of November:

 

LIVE FROM RIMS ERM CONFERENCE 2013: CONDITIONING FOR DISRUPTION

November 5, 2013 – 1:45 – 3:15 p.m. ET

This session is designed to teach risk practitioners strategies for developing an organizational culture that is prepared for crisis. Participants will learn how to apply a unique risk-sensing capability within their organizations, techniques for making incremental changes to alleviate a slow-burning problem before it is too late, as well as the advantages of applying a ‘micro-gaming’ strategy. This session is a live stream from RIMS ERM Conference 2013.

Instructor: Phillip Van Saun is director of risk, security and resilience for the University of California.

 

LIVE FROM RIMS ERM CONFERENCE 2013: MANAGING REPUTATIONAL RISK: MISSION POSSIBLE

November 5, 2013 – 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. ET

Leading reputational risk expert will explain, from a behavioral economics perspective, the psychology of reputational risk, the myriad short and long-term costs; and practical, affordable strategies that can help increase, protect or restore reputational value.  This session is a live stream from RIMS ERM Conference 2013.

Instructor: Dr. Nir Kossovsky is cofounder, chief executive, and director of Steel City Re, reputational value specialists.

 

WORKSHOP: ENTERPRISE-WIDE RISK MANAGEMENT: DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING

November 6 - 8, 2013

The Rostie Group - Toronto

Participants will acquire an understanding of the ERM process, as well as ERM strategies and tools to help develop and successful advance a risk management program.  The workshop will provide case studies, check-lists, as well as hands-on exercises that cover each step of the ERM implementation process.

Instructor: Edward Robertson, is a leader in developing risk management methods, risk assessment facilitation and ERM implementation.

 

COURSECAST: WORKERS' COMPENSATION COST CONTAINMENT

Live: November 7, 2013 -  1:00 –2:00 p.m. ET | On Demand after November 7

In this final CourseCast of the Workers' Compensations series, attendees will take part in an interactive discussion about how many of the costs relative to the WC exposure are generated by medical treatment and expenses.  Attendees will review and analyze cost containment processes that will serve to improve outcomes and reduce costs.

WORKSHOP: GLOBAL INSURANCE MANAGEMENT
November 7 – 8, 2013
The Metropolitan Club - Chicago

In this workshop, participants will acquire the expertise to evaluate and implement an international insurance program that best fits the risk profile of your organization. The two-day educational program will include an interactive discussion on the key issues associated with multinational insurance programs that are administered by either U.S. or foreign corporations, as well as jurisdictional concerns such as structure, tax and government regulations.
Instructor: Evelyn Wolovnick is a senior advisor to PwC’s Insurance Practice.

WORKSHOP: RISK MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES: GAINING THE RISK ADVANTAGE
November 20 – 21, 2013

This workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to risk management by exploring the risk assessment process, control and mitigation strategies, and mechanisms to identify and transfer risk and assess the best coverage.

NEW: ONLINE COURSE (MOOC): DQ101: INTRODUCTION TO DECISION QUALITY

October 21, 2013 – November 24, 2013

RIMS is pleased to announce its association with the Strategic Decision Group (SDG) and Dr. Carl Spetzler in offering this unique learning opportunity to our risk management community. At its core, a risk assessment is a decision making process made up of repeatable steps based on rational decision making. Understanding what forms a quality decision is foundational for achieving desired outcomes. This free five-week introductory course allows attendees to work in teams to learn the Decision Quality approach, which draws from the disciplines of business, engineering, psychology, organizational behavior, and decision science.
