"HOT TOPIC SESSIONS" Announced for RIMS '14 3/18/2014

 

 World’s Premier Risk Management Conference Addresses Practitioners’ Top Issues

NEW YORK (March 18, 2014) — RIMS has announced six “Hot Topic Sessions” scheduled for RIMS 2014 Annual Conference & Exhibition on April 27th – 30th in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center.  The “Hot Topic Sessions” are selected by RIMS Annual Conference Programming Committee and include educational presentations that explore some of the most pressing issues facing risk professionals.

This year’s “Hot Topic Sessions” are: 

AVOIDING CYBER LIABILITY PITFALLS–LESSONS LEARNED FROM RISK MANAGERS, LEGAL AND FORENSIC EXPERTS
Monday, April 28th   2 – 4 p.m.
How prepared is your organization for a cyber-attack? Hear from leading experts who will share lessons learned, and provide insight into prevention, mitigation and response.

FOREIGN ACCOUNT TAX COMPLIANCE ACT (FATCA)
Monday, April 28th    2 – 3 p.m.
As FATCA becomes effective on July, 1 2014, this educational session will explore its implications on organizations and strategies for risk practitioners to better understand and manage its phased implementation.

GLOBAL WARMING – SCIENCE AND EXPLORATION
Monday, April 28th   4 – 5 p.m.
On December 24, 2013, nineteen-year-old Parker Liautaud took the final steps in an epic journey from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole – marking the culmination of the Willis Resilience Expedition. During this session, Parker will discuss the scientific observations from his journey.

HOW WILL THE LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA AFFECT YOUR EMPLOYMENT POLICIES?
Tuesday, April 29th   1:45 - 3:45 p.m.
Join a lively panel discussion on insurance coverage issues, drug testing (postoffer, postaccident, random and reasonable suspicion), model workplace drug policies, law enforcement, regulatory issues and hear how local experts in Colorado are handling the legalization of marijuana at the forefront of this emerging issue.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE COLORADO FIRE AND FLOODS

In the wake of severe natural disasters that afflicted the state, local experts will lead a panel discussion that explores the challenges encountered by counties, towns, families and businesses, as well as the hurdles that remain as part of the long-term recovery process.

TRIA: IF A TREE FALLS IN THE WOODS . . .
This panel discussion will explore the consequences of TRIA’s expiration including its impact on insurance policies from auto to workers’ compensation. This session is hosted by RIMS External Affairs Committee.
