As RIMS Delegate you are your chapter's key link to RIMS, and as a part of your volunteer role you are expected to attend the House of Delegates Meeting preceding RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition. As your chapter’s representative, you are responsible to present agenda items to your chapter prior to the meeting so that you can receive member and board input in order to act on the chapter’s behalf. Following the meeting, you are required to report back to your chapter regarding what happened and make them aware of any changes to RIMS Constitution and Bylaws that may have been approved. These changes may impact your own chapter’s constitution and bylaws.
In addition to duties surrounding the House of Delegate’s Meeting, a RIMS Delegate has a number of other responsibilities which can be found in the RIMS Delegate Handbook (www.RIMS.org/handbooks).
As you know, volunteers come and go and for many, a chapter’s strength changes along with its leaders. It is imperative that RIMS has an updated list of your officers and directors on file at all times. RIMS acts as a repository for your chapter’s constitution and bylaws and incorporation papers. It is essential that your chapter’s constitution and bylaws are updated each time RIMS constitution and bylaws are updated. The last update was approved April 2006 and another update may result after today’s meeting. Following new updates to RIMS constitution and bylaws, Delegates receive the new “Model Chapter Constitution & Bylaws” highlighting the changes via e-mail. Chapters can use this model as a template to make the process simpler.
As a benefit to RIMS chapters and their leaders, RIMS maintains directors and officers liability insurance. In order to maintain this coverage, RIMS must have the most up to date version of your chapter’s constitution and bylaws on file. Attached is a list of RIMS 80 local chapters, along with information on whether or not the chapter’s constitution and bylaws and incorporation papers are on file for each.
