Roger Andrews is director of risk management for E.D. Bullard Company located in Cynthiana, Kentucky. He reports to the President & CEO in managing the international risk for this major manufacturer of personal protective equipment including hard hats, fire helmets, respiratory equipment and thermal image cameras. His duties include: the purchase of all property & casualty, group health insurance and workers’ compensation policies; review of all product literature and warnings; administration of the 401(k) program; and, management of all litigation and claims under the self-insured retention. From 1993 to 1997, he also performed the duties of General Counsel. Since 1997, Roger has been telecommuting from an office in his home in Provo, Utah.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Andrews worked for Travelers Insurance Company as a commercial underwriter in the San Diego office and in the international department of Travelers in Hartford, Connecticut. After law school, he worked as manager of property & casualty in the Maine Bureau of Insurance. In 1982, he drafted the legislation that created the risk management division for the State of Maine and became the first director of risk management for the State. He has worked as manager of property and casualty for Hannaford Bros. Co., (Northern New England’s largest supermarket and drugstore chain) and director of risk management for Bath Iron Works Corp., a large Navy contractor that builds cruisers and destroyers for the U.S. Navy.
While in Maine, Mr. Andrews was appointed to serve on the Governor’s Commission to Examine Problems of Tort Litigation and Liability Insurance in Maine. He was a founding member and past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Maine Council of Self-Insurers (workers’ compensation) and as a trustee of the McKin Toxic Waste Site Trust Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Human Resource Committee of the Maine Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Mr. Andrews has been active in RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.) for the past 25 years in various capacities. He has served as president and director of the Bluegrass Chapter in Lexington, Kentucky and currently serves as Delegate from the Utah Chapter and a member of the RIMS Nominating Committee. He served as chair of the RIMS Constitution & Bylaws Task Force and on various other governance task forces as well as in various positions on the RIMS Executive Council. He was president of RIMS from May 1, 2000 to 2001. Roger is currently a member of the board of directors and President of the Spencer Educational Foundation. He was honored at the RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Atlanta as the 1997 recipient of the Richard W. Bland Memorial Award for outstanding contributions in the area of legislation. In 2003, Roger was recognized by Business Insurance and RIMS as a member of the Risk Management Honor Roll (Risk Manager of the Year for corporations under $300 million in sales). In April 2006, at the RIMS Conference in Hawaii, Roger was awarded RIMS’ highest award, the Harry & Dorothy Goodell Award for outstanding contributions to risk management and to RIMS.
Roger received a BA degree from Brigham Young University, a JD from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and is a member of the State Bar of California. He and his wife, Joelyn, have seven children and nine grandchildren.
