Ms. Barnes is the Risk Manager and Security Administrator for Public Utility District (PUD) No. 1 of Snohomish County, the 12th largest public utility in the United States. Jan’s responsibilities involve coordinating the District’s traditional risk management program including purchasing the corporation’s insurance, loss control, physical security, risk financing, self-funded operations and the PUD’s fledgling Enterprise Risk Management platform.
Jan currently serves on the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s (RIMS) Board of Directors and sits on the RIMS Audit Committee, and the recently formed Student Advisory Council.
On the RIMS Board of Directors, Jan has also had the portfolio responsibility for Professional Development, Member and Chapter Services and Conference Programming. Prior to service on the RIMS Board she served on the Conference Programming Committee (CPC) for several years chairing the CPC for two of those years. She also has served on the Student Involvement Committee.
Jan is a member of the Washington Chapter having served in almost every capacity including Chapter President. Jan received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Delaware State University and also holds the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.
