Near Field Communications (RMG220)

Wednesday, April 18, 2012
8:45 AM - 10:00 AM

Now paying the check is as easy as using your phone. But this seemingly time-saving and convenient payment poses many threats. To some, the NFC chips embedded in phones and the supporting technology are viewed as more secure than credit or debit cards, with features such as off-site shutdown if a phone is lost. Opponents argue that nearby readers can hijack personal information from nearby points-of-sale. This session will demonstrate this technology and examine the risks to companies that pursue this technology and how those risks can be managed.

Speakers
Larry Collins, Zurich
Manus O'Donnell, M&T Bank

Is My Local Insurance Company Really Solvent (INT206)

Wednesday, April 18, 2012
10:15 AM - 11:30 AM

Many companies now operate globally, have partners that are global or are part of the global supply chain. Risk managers are tasked with setting up compliant global insurance programs while also managing processes to ensure their operating divisions, partners and suppliers have appropriate insurance in place. Even with a global insurance program anchored by a financially sound multinational insurance company there can be credit risk with affiliated insurance companies, local insurers selected by your operating divisions, vendors and other business partners. This session will benefit companies who currently have a global insurance program, global operations or plan to expand globally soon. Attendees will gain an understanding of the different rating agencies and how they rate foreign insurance companies as well as how to navigate the challenges when faced with insurers that do not have an international financial strength rating. The panel will also provide best practices for measuring, tracking and mitigating counter party risk. This session is hosted by the RIMS International Committee.

Speakers
Cary Crisp, Aon Service Corporation
Monica Rifenburg, Andritz Inc.
Andy Steinbach, YUM! Brands Inc.
